Portraits PT 4 - Final 3
Final 3
after spending hours looking over all of my images I managed to finally condense them down to my favourite 3. unfortunately after reviewing them I decided not to use any of the photographs taken in shoot 2 as I felt they were the least effective. this was very disappointing as I like the images I just feel that they are unsuitable for this particular project. here are my 3 choices and why I chose each one.
this is a reflective image I took during shoot 1 with my model Savina Simmons. I took this after viewing inspiration from Freedlanders work on reflections in shop windows. the reason I have chosen this one in my final 3 is because of the 3 reflections that are created. I hadn't thought I would end up with 3, but after experimenting I found that there were 3. I feel that it gives the photo a lot of depth by creating 3 visuals of Savina, it was difficult the frame this in order to show all three as we didn't have a lot of room, but I am proud that I was able to get it all into one photo. the reason I'm not sure about using this is because I could have focused the camera more, but I was using Savina's camera which I hadn't had experience with previously. I'm upset that I could have done this better, but I didn't have a chance to reshoot and I do really like the image.
this one was also taken during shoot 1. I love the composition of this piece, the clarity of the image and the focus of the camera shows some level of technical ability which the first image lacks. I enjoy the juxtaposition of her expensive boots and the broken glass. how the difference between them shows how much she has developed and changed from being in this kind of run down environment to being able to wear expensive clothes and making something of herself. the reason I don't know if I will choose this one is because I personally don't feel it fits the brief as well as it could as it is a photo of her shoes and not her face or body. over all I don't feel confident enough with this image in relation to the project.
I really enjoy this one for a lot of reasons. this was a photo taken during shoot 3. this directly relates to one of Freedlanders pieces and I like how it shows a direct link between this and my original research. this is my most technically able shoot out of those I did, it is also my most planned out and organised. this photo is really in focus and I think accurately shows the intend I had behind it. in my opinion it has the most depth behind it and aesthetically looks the most pleasing out of the 3. the reason I am not sure about using this is because I don't know if I have given it enough originality and variation from Freedlander's photo, it is important to me that I don't copy his work which is why I tried to give it my own twist with the lighting.
