Split screen - Pt 2

INSPIRATION:

After having found Stipan, i used her above image as inspiration. i decided that i wanted to use the split screen to show two opposing views of the world and reality changing. possibly with one showing current life and one showing a futuristic representation. I decided to see if prehaps one of my outside interests would be able to help me create this split screen. so i began to look at some of my favourite slam poets for inspiration. firstly turning to my number one favourite slam poet Neil Hilborn, who's written loads of varying slam poems such as 'When your fourth love leaves you', 'Me but happy', 'OCD' and 'The future'. he writes poems about mental health disorders mainly, and so i decided to look into related slam poets and after looking through a few different ones such as Shane Koyczan and Jesse Parent, i came to a man called Marshall Davis Jones.

Marshall Davis Jones:
He is part of team Nuyorican 2011 who finished 2nd place at the national poetry slam competition. His poem called 'Touchscreen' came up and so i watched and listened to a youtube recording of him reading it. this is what finally helped my decide on what my concept would be for this project. the poem talks about advertising the new 'Apple IPerson complete with multi-touch' and repeats the phrase 'doesn't it feel good to touch' almost like hes got a fault and is stuck on repeat. he also says 'it used to be hard to connect when friends formed cliques but its even more difficult to connect now that clicks form friends' - this quote almost flicked a switch for me about the message hes sending out to the world. i have now decided that for this project i am going to jump in the deep end.

My concept:
My concept for this piece is to create a split screen project showing the juxtaposition of the development of technology Vs the reality of current human life and how technology, despite all of its leaps forward, can never give humans what reality can. i intend to use one half of the screen to show today's reality in a very simple way. using really long takes to show the simple pleasures of life that you cant get from the digital world or robotics, showing people acting normally and just having fun in every day life. and on the other side is where i will be taking on a hard and complicated task. on the other half of the screen i am going to create the advert for the apple IHuman, with my own narration and special effects. i understand i have bitten off a lot to chew, however i am confident that i can expand on my current ability to achieve the outcome for this project that i want.

My message and intended audience:
My intended audience for this film will be today's teenagers and young adults as i feel they are the ones who this would effect most. the message i am going to try and create is that technology isn't everything, and we need to still enjoy the smaller pleasures in life like physically being present with our friends as well as what technology can give us instead of aiming to replace human with with it.
