My role - Suzie's dance film

Suzie's Dance film:

Suzie's dance film was about her finding friends and finding confidence. she had a desire to film in silhouette which I have wanted to dabble in for a while. she contacted me, knowing how much I love to gaffer, sat me down and spoke to me about her idea. I really loved it and felt that I could be able to assist in bringing that to life. so I signed on as her gaffer for the shoot.

I have already researched silhouette lighting so I didn't feel like I had to do that again, she spoke to me about some of her influences for the piece including 'Thought of you' by Ryan Woodward. as well as a couple of silhouette dances, all evident on her blog - suzannebellisio-dfsa.blogspot.com.

when arriving on set, we had booked out the three lights, of which we only used two, as well as a gaffer kit. the gaffer kit came in really helpful as I had to remove two sets of barn doors from the lights before using them as they would've got in the way due to needing to flood the set to create the dense silhouette on the dancers. when doing this we aimed the two 650W lights against the white back wall, meaning it reflects off and spreads creating a beautiful darkness on the subject. it took some trial and error to get the lights in the perfect position, as we also had issues with one of those lights which one light wouldn't lock into place, meaning I had to hold it (wearing gloves clearly), which was a little annoying. but once we had them in the right place, filming was actually a breeze. it was really helpful to be able to film in the studio (G28) as it meant we had plenty of space and a huge white wall to work with.

I really enjoyed being given the opportunity to trial working with silhouette lighting and creating such a stunning piece for susie, it was really enjoyable and I had a great time working with her and her crew.
