Tutorial with Kathleen

today I went in and had a tutorial with Kathleen where we discussed my ideas and then started drafting a learning agreement.

idea discussion:

we discussed my first idea about an immersive experience where I think she knew I wasn't totally set on the idea, clearly she was correct. I told her about my idea about EMDR, working around the subject in more detail, maybe the recreation of a session, looking more in depth into the therapy, arguments for and against it, etc. she seemed really on board immediately, which i was surprised by, but I found it reassuring that this was the right idea for me.

we discussed what my next steps should be for this project and the correct ways for me to move forward. we agreed that more research into the area and other people's experiences of the therapy would be a good next step. we also agreed the length of the film should be about 10 minutes, as it is a substantial piece of work.

Learning agreement:

as I mentioned, we agreed on the length of the film as 10 minutes. I would like to create a dance film out of this. or at least a film with dance elements. we discussed further research looking into others personal recolections of EMDR, as well as some scientific research into the field and case studies, just to validate my film a little more.

we also spoke about how this relates to my future goals. I don't think I've mentioned this before on my blog, but my future goals are to go into secondary school/college teaching. eventually id like to go into counselling as well, but not until I'm a lot older and have more life experience. I feel this relates to my goals as a teacher because I would love to teach media and inspire young people the same way my teachers inspired me growing up. I want to be able to look back and be proud of the projects I have made and show students that doing something you love is the most important thing in life. this has always been a big part of my future goals. Kathleen said that I should look into different ways to get into teaching, which I've already done and will post a blog on what I know so far.

I know theres a lot more I need to do in order to substantiate my film, but after my tutorial I feel significantly more confident about my idea than I have in a while.
